So guy has just

So, a guy has just beaten the world record for visiting all the stations on the London Underground in the shortest amount of time – more here. The guy is from Nottingham and says it’s been an ambition since he was a child and first went on a tube. It’s quite obvious he doesn’t live or work in London though, it’s normally enough of a hassle just taking the tubes you need to get to work, never mind trying to visit all the stations on the network. It says he beat the previous best by 40 minutes, but is any allowance made for the new stations that are added? Like the Jubilee line extension when that opened a couple of years ago? Is this particular record getting harder to beat every time a new station is added?

Well we re back

Well, we’re back in Brighton now after an action packed week in Ireland. I haven’t had time to process the (many) photos yet, or write up the journal but it’ll happen sometime soon (ish!). We were on a cycling trip with Irish Cycling Safaris and we had a great time – the people on the trip were really good fun and we all got along really well. We did the Connemara, Galway and Mayo tour, and some of the scenery was beautiful. We were very lucky with the weather as we only had showers on 2 days, which is a bit of a miracle for the summer in Ireland this year which is shaping up to be the worst for many years.

Apologies to anyone who has been spammed from janeandrichard.co.uk. I got an “Undelivered Mail” report the other day for a mail that I didn’t send. It had a subject of “Feest”. Not much I can do about it, other than apologise. Sorry!

Panic on the streets of London

Panic gripped the streets of London this morning when patches of sky took on an unusual blue colour and a ball of fire appeared above the city.

The phenomenon, known as ‘The Sun’ and commonly found in Mediterranean countries, unleashed a terrifying heat and brightness upon the capital, causing many pedestrians to take off their hats and scarves, while motorists were able to turn both their headlights and wipers off. Tony Blair urged people to be calm and return to work as normal stating: “We’ve seen this sort of thing before”, he said,”but it never lasts.”

There are forecasts that ‘The Sun’ could be seen throughout the weekend but a spokesman for No.10 said, “I wouldn’t hold my breath”.

Hmm weird The socks

Hmm, weird. The socks I’m wearing today seem to have a slightly velcro like property to them. Or at least they stick ever so slightly to the carpet in the office (yes, I spend most of my day wandering around in my socks). Very strange. Haven’t noticed it before, but then these don’t get worn very often – they’re kind of an emergency pair.

We were in Hull

We were in Hull at the weekend (see the wedlog) and were doing some shopping at Princes Quay. We noticed a lot of canoeists in the water that surrounds the shopping centre, and it turned out to be the Hull International Canoe Polo competition. Now we’d never seen Canoe Polo before, and the first game we watched was a ladies game and it was really interesting. Later in the afternoon, after we’d finished shopping, we stopped and watch a couple of the mens games, and were amazed at how aggressive, fast and enjoyable to watch they were. The Hull event seems to be an annual event, so hopefully we’ll remember to keep an eye out for it next year and go and watch some more games.

What pleasant evening It

What a pleasant evening. It’s Jeremy’s birthday today so we’ve just been to the Three Jolly Butchers for a couple of pints with the birthday boy. It’s a really nice pub, and is in danger of becoming our “local” – fairly quiet, serves good beer, not too busy (sounds like we’re getting old doesn’t it??? – ho hum).

For Jeremy’s birthday we bought him the Executive Air Hockey Game from the Discovery store. Somehow, I think this will be arriving in the office tomorrow, actually, make that I *hope* this will be arriving in the office tomorrow :-D. Apologies to anyone in the Three Jolly Butchers this evening who wondered what the hell the noise was – that was us. Sorry!
